Caroline Rose + Jeff LeBlanc Music

I mentioned Caroline Rose and Jeff LeBlanc in a post a couple of months ago and since the Highline Ballroom show is getting closer and closer (August 16th, less than a month, guys!) I thought I'd harp on again about what a great time it's going to be. Jeff's sound has been compared to artists such as John Mayer and Caroline is well, Caroline. I'm not a music writer (can you tell?) but I'll just leave it up to their musical talent to convince you guys. Check out Caroline and Jeff's music, and get an advance ticket ASAP (you'll save a bunch of money & not be disappointed if it sells out before you get there). Then you'll have an excuse to hang out with us (Amanda will be there too!). How can you say no to that? Come one, come all and enjoy a great night of music and friends. Horray!

And Now You Givin' Me the Look Look

Head over to Hudson River Park RIGHT NOW to check out the River Rocks festival. Metronomy is playing tonight with Class Actress and American Royalty. I haven't heard the openers but Metronomy is the bomb, seriously. They're a really fun electro group from Devon, England and they'll definitely be rocking your socks off tonight. Anyway, hurry over riiiight now to check them out. You won't regret it. And if you're still not convinced, check out some videos below. The Look is off The English Riviera, their third album that was released in April.

I know I've mentioned this video before on StyleRelish but A Thing For Me, from Nights Out (2008), is a song I'm still lovin'. So fun, right? Run quickly to see'em!

I'll be in Boston this weekend so stay tuned for jetsetting updates (is it still jetsetting if I'm taking the bus? haha)

Steven Alan Spring 2011

images/ Steven Alan

Steven Alan always banks on simple shapes, loose fit and muted color.  These three factors could contribute to one very boring lookbook but somehow Steven Alan gets it right every time.  What's not to like about his no fuss no muss aesthetic?  What say you?

Pixie Market

images/ Pixie Market

AHHHH it's been so hot out.  Anyone have any good ideas for keeping cool?

I just came across this website called Pixie Market where they have some pretty cool looks.  The prices aren't so bad, I think they're comparable to Urban or Anthropologie and definitely cheaper than Madewell so it's worth checking out their site if you have the time.  I picked out some of my favorite looks so let me know what you think of em.  Also I just got a haircut like the girl with the sunglasses above but I'm getting used to it still.  I don't think I can ever go back to not having bangs.  Weird?

My friend Marcy and I have forayed into the world of making french macarons (3rd attempt this past friday: chocolate with raspberry and hazelnut filling) so I'll be blogging more about that in the future I hope.  First time I tried was a total flop (Chuck's Day Off recipe and they were hard and flat), second time was good (less flat and chewable), third time might have been the charm except I think we over beat the eggs a little but they were still tasty.  BUT we did get some of the desirable FEET (that little lift) so desired on the base of the macarons.  Maybe next time will be even better...

Okay! That's all for now.  I hope you all don't melt in the sun.

Mobiles With Style

Check out today's interactive Google Doodle celebrating Alexander Calder's 113th birthday, an American sculptor and artist who invented the mobile. Go and check out the doodle right now, it moves. Horray!

And to honour good ol' Sandy, here are a collection of cool mobiles. Some are his, and some are inspired by his geometrical wonders.

Fashionology (Yeah, That Would Be Fashion + Technology)

fashionable technology
Click the images for more information.

Anyone who doesn't live under a rock (and maybe even some people that do) knows that technology is taking over the planet ...not to get all science fiction nerd on you guys or anything. Anyway, just the other day I was talking to my dear friend Sharel about how she had to unload her belongings to go through a metal detector and created quite a scene when out of her bag came her Droid, a Blackberry (for work), her iPod, a laptop aaand her brother's Kindle. So it's lucky for us that designers are going with the flow and making some super fashionable technological accessories. Here are some of my favourite iPhone, iPad, iPod and laptop bags, cases, and sleeves. Prints prints prints! And check out the bioserie accessories that are made entirely of plant material.. bam!

Savage Beauty

I recently went to see the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, and let me say... it was outstanding. Of course, everyone has been gushing about what a brilliant exhibition it is but they are absolutely right. Photos are prohibited, so I was only able to capture a few sneaky photographs before being punished (okay so that's an exaggeration, but they were not amused). The pieces were amazing, seriously worth a visit. Check out more information about the exhibit as well as a few photos below:

Vermonster

Sorry I've been so MIA these past few weeks. I've been up in Vermont visiting friends and exploring, which sure was as adventure. I did some great hiking, practiced driving (I don't have my license and it doesn't seem as though I'm going to get it all that soon haha), hitchhiked (kinda), saw some cool animals and ate a WHOLE bunch of awesome food. Because there are so many farms up there, the food is amazingly fresh and delicious. And it just so happens to be home to some of the nicest people I've ever met. Oh yeah, and really beautiful. Don't worry, I'm almost done gushing.

SHOP UPDATE

Hey everyone!  Finally I have a new shop update at Long Arm Press.  These latest additions were inspired by all the awesome Proenza Schouler cord bracelets that I'd been wanting but couldn't afford.  Also I just thought that colorful utility cords were perfect for summer esp. with all the cool Jak and Jil photos of bright chunky jewelry and clutches.  These would be perfect for layering or on their own.  Won't you take one home?

PS some of my other stuff is on sale so be sure to check those out too!

Matchbook Mag: July Issue

It's that time again! Another issue of Matchbook Mag is out, this time featuring bag designer Rebecca Minkoff.  Can't wait to see what she says.  Anyone in NYC, watch out for her infamous sample sales!  I'll let you know when another one's coming up because you definitely need to experience the mayhem.

Enjoy! And let me know what you think.  PS- I'll be updating my shop soon so keep your eyes peeled.  Happy Thursday (almost Friday).
