Vermonster

Sorry I've been so MIA these past few weeks. I've been up in Vermont visiting friends and exploring, which sure was as adventure. I did some great hiking, practiced driving (I don't have my license and it doesn't seem as though I'm going to get it all that soon haha), hitchhiked (kinda), saw some cool animals and ate a WHOLE bunch of awesome food. Because there are so many farms up there, the food is amazingly fresh and delicious. And it just so happens to be home to some of the nicest people I've ever met. Oh yeah, and really beautiful. Don't worry, I'm almost done gushing.

Back To The Future

So, I have this weird obsession with looking through the bedrooms of people I know. Okay that sounds real creepy, huh? Their books, knickknacks, clothes, and (especially) embarrassing old photos say a lot about the kind of person they are. And if they have weird stuffed animals or a collection of silly-shaped whistles or something, they're great in my books. Irina Werning, a photographer from Buenos Aires, has said herself that she's fascinated by recreating old photos found around people's houses so clearly she's a woman after my own heart. As a part of her ongoing Back To The Future series, Werning decided to reconstruct some fantastic old family photos approximately 15 years later. Check out some of my favourites below:

Happy New Year (Only 9 Days Late...)!

I just returned from my holidays travels and I am SO happy to be back in New York. Not that my holiday wasn't great (it was!), but it's really nice to be home. Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port was a super cute town in France and I took a couple of rolls of film which I will be developing in the very near future. We popped into Spain for lunch one day, which included a picnic on the beach and dipping my feet into the Mediterranean on January 3rd. Quite a feat in itself, eh?
For now I've got a few phone photos to share. I also did an overwhelming amount of shopping in two weeks (7 pairs of shoes, anyone?) and I hope some of my new purchases may make their way onto Style Relish by way of some fun photos.

Now that I'm back in internetland, I wanted to wish everyone a super-delayed Happy New Year! What did everyone wear on New Years Eve??

Nicole Dextras Photography

Nicole Dextras is an artist hailing from Vancouver who works as a mixed media artist as well as an art teacher. She creates environmental art focusing on different aspects of nature, using materials typically found in different seasons of the year to construct her pieces. From clothing frozen into ice to dresses made of flowers, Dextras has used nature as her muse for her ephemeral pieces, many which can be seen on her flickr. She has also happens to take wonderful black and white photographs all over the world, which are eerily beautiful. Here are some of my favourites:

We've Missed You!

Sorry we've been totally MIA for the past week. We've both been sick, which has obviously involved much loafing about watching TV shows we're too embarrassed to talk about publicly. But we're getting better, which means they'll be some great posts coming this week. Since I've been spending so much quality time with my bed, I managed to document this lovely sunset out of my window that made my room all pink. I took a picture with my real camera too, so once I get the film developed... I'll share the possible masterpiece I've created (warning: it won't be that cool).

WE MISSED YOU!

Dior on 57th

I was walking back from work when I passed this near Madison and took a picture:

How cool is that?  The store's closed for renovation but instead of the usual boring barricade plastered with unrealistic, retouched, and frankly boring clothing ad  models we get this!  It's huge version of the Lady Dior bag (below) which retails for about $2200.  I just thought it was fun and a creative way to advertise for the company while it's closed.  Plus, you can imagine how many tourists have stopped to take a picture in front of the store despite it not being open?  Probably truckloads...or bag loads?
