Caroline Rose + Jeff LeBlanc Music

I mentioned Caroline Rose and Jeff LeBlanc in a post a couple of months ago and since the Highline Ballroom show is getting closer and closer (August 16th, less than a month, guys!) I thought I'd harp on again about what a great time it's going to be. Jeff's sound has been compared to artists such as John Mayer and Caroline is well, Caroline. I'm not a music writer (can you tell?) but I'll just leave it up to their musical talent to convince you guys. Check out Caroline and Jeff's music, and get an advance ticket ASAP (you'll save a bunch of money & not be disappointed if it sells out before you get there). Then you'll have an excuse to hang out with us (Amanda will be there too!). How can you say no to that? Come one, come all and enjoy a great night of music and friends. Horray!

And Now You Givin' Me the Look Look

Head over to Hudson River Park RIGHT NOW to check out the River Rocks festival. Metronomy is playing tonight with Class Actress and American Royalty. I haven't heard the openers but Metronomy is the bomb, seriously. They're a really fun electro group from Devon, England and they'll definitely be rocking your socks off tonight. Anyway, hurry over riiiight now to check them out. You won't regret it. And if you're still not convinced, check out some videos below. The Look is off The English Riviera, their third album that was released in April. 

I know I've mentioned this video before on StyleRelish but A Thing For Me, from Nights Out (2008), is a song I'm still lovin'. So fun, right? Run quickly to see'em!

A few weeks ago I shared some photographs of a delicious loaf of bread made by Caroline. After promoting her cooking skills, I'm now moving on to promoting her musical talent. Celebracion

Okay, okay so I don't speak Spanish, BUT this post is dedicated to my ethnically diverse friends (said in a completely PC and completely loving way). The other day I went out and celebrated the birthdays of some people I love dearly, which included eating our body weight in creamy, buttery foods (yes, please) + cake + wine + much fun hollering. Just like hanging out with good friends can make you super happy (cheesy, right?) there are some songs that ALWAYS without fail make me feel hyper and excitable, no matter how many times I listen to them.

A Feist-y film

Check out Look at What the Light Did Now, a new documentary that follows Feist's musical career, collaborations, and the artistry involved.

I saw her in concert not so recently when she played McCarren park pool and later in Northampton, MA and was fascinated by the different puppertry/ light techniques used to enhance the already dream-like atmosphere. No one puts on a show quite like Feist. My only regret is that the screenings of the film are primarily in Canada, damn them. Maybe when it comes out on DVD?

Wednesday Warble

Wednesday Warble doesn't sound nearly as good as Tuesday Tunes, does it? Well, unfortunately this week, that can't be helped. Making up for some lame busyness and lack-of-posting-ness, here's a fun edition of Wednesday Warble (ha, it's still funny).

This weekend is Fall Fling at my college, which means we get to go to concerts and prance around doing fun activities all for freefreefree. Tomorrow's band is none other than Best Coast, hailing from L.A., a super fun band fronted by Bethany Cosentino. Bobb Bruno and ex-Vivian Girls Ali Koehler make up the rest of the "surf pop" trio, bassing and drumming their way along to superstar-dom. Anyway, I'm excited to see them tomorrow fo' free, since I was bummed to have missed them over the summer in New York.

And then after this wonderful concert, I'm then going to see the midnight showing of Harry Potter, possibly wearing a graduation robe (might as well get some use out of that thing). Extremely excited, not gonna lie. But that's another story.

It doesn't end yet! Friday night Chiddy Bang is coming to play and I can't wait. If you're not familiar with them, they're a hip hop group from Philly who sample bands like Sufjan Stevens and Radiohead and mix it all in with a lil hip hop. I actually wasn't that familiar with them until my friend Sharel told me they were performing, but it seems like it's going to be an awesome show! Their most popular song is "Opposite of Adults" where they sample MGMT "Kids". The video is a bit abnormal, in a great way! Silly bobblehead kids. Check it out below:

Irish Dance for the Post-Pop Generation

My dear friend Monica showed me this video recently, and I can't stop wishing I was coordinated enough to be able to do this myself. We've tried many a time, but really it just ends up with us banging on the table with no rhythm or rhyme to it. Believe me, Suzanne Cleary and Jonny Reed (aka upandoverit) are much better at it. Don't you wish you were this coordinated?

Tuesday Tunes

So I was recently clearing out my email inbox (exciting, right?) and I came across the ticket I'd bought to see one my of my favourite bands, Foals, at the end of September. And then I realised that I hadn't done a post about all of the music I've been listening to/obsessing over recently. So here goes.

Foals Foals Foals! They came out with their new CD, Total Life Forever, in May of this year but I think I'm still partial to their debut album which is just a lil bit more spunky and funky and interesting. This is their weirdly cool video for "Spanish Sahara" off their new CD, although I would also recommend checking out the song "Black Gold" which I'm weirdly obsessed with.

I've also been listening a lot to the Dodos, particularly their 2008 album Visiter. When I first started listening to them, I was wondering why they'd decided to spell visitor incorrectly and assumed it was just the band trying to be hip 'n fun. BUT, I then read their Wikipedia page and was pleasantly surprised. It turns out that they played a show for a bunch of children before the album came out and were given a drawing (now the cover) by one of the lil kids where "Visiter" was spelt wrong. And I guess it stuck. Pretty cool, huh? I wish I'd been a cool enough kid to get my drawings on the cover of a CD. Anyway, check out one of my favourite songs "The Season":

Just one more, Menomena! Whaaaat a good name. I used to be obsessed with their old CDs and there had been much discussion about them having new music out for AGES. So when it finally happened in July (at least a year overdue), I was pretty excited. I can't tell if I like it as much as the other stuff yet, but there are some good toones on hurr. Have a listen to "Taos."

What are you guys listening to these days? I find that the beginning of a new school year always inspires me to listen to my old music. Perhaps it's because I never want to grow up. Hey, maybe if I'm a kid forever I can finally get one of my drawings on the front of someone's CD. I'll just have to keep trying...

Tuesday Tunes

So Amanda and I have decided to start our blog off right, with a lil bit of everything to read about. So on that note, welcome to the first ever Tuesday Tunes, which will hopefully be a regular addition to our ramblings each week. A few weeks ago, I got a hold of the new album by Bombay Bicycle Club. They’re a four-piece hailing from London who released their second album Flaws on July 12 and have already managed to reach #8 in the UK charts, their first time making it to the top 10. The best part of the whole story? They formed the band at the tender age of 15. And they recorded their new acoustic album by themselves with a really low budget. Kind of puts us to shame, eh?

Now onto the real music part. My friend first sent me a demo of this song in 2006, right after I graduated high school and I remember listening to it over and over again on all the trains, buses and planes I took that summer (it was a busy one).  It’s called "The Hill":

A rerecorded version of The Hill is included on their debut album I Had the Blues But I Shook Them Loose, released in 2009. However, my latest obsessions on their new album (very obvious from my last.fm profile) would have to be "Ivy & Gold" and "Rinse Me Down". Check out a fun version of "Ivy & Gold" below, complete with whistling. The funniest part would have to be when a girl in the background burns another onlooker with a cigarette, watch out.

They received mixed reviews on this album because it’s just so different from their previous musical endeavours, but I happen to like it. If you’re digging this stuff, or just intrigued, check out some of their earlier tunes which are aren’t as acoustic, but are still equally as impressive. What’s on your summer playlist?
