Jazz Age Lawn Party- June

Hi all!

Hope I haven't kept you waiting too long for my Jazz Age Lawn Party pictures.  Last Sunday was my second time going with friends to the Governor's Island bash and it was just as fun as the first time.  Since the island is already pretty old school (took the ferry over) with its historical buildings and lack of cars, the whole effect was amplified with everyone walking around in 1920's garb.  The live music was wonderful and the singers and dancers were amazing to watch- such skill!  Such nostalgia for old times past, days of speakeasies, prohibition, finger waves, flappers, and glorious excess.

Starring Mr. Bill Cunningham...

I haven't been this excited for a movie in forever. I can't wait for Bill Cunningham The Movie to come to NY (on March 16th) at the Film Forum. Uh, I will obviously be pre-ordering my ticket.

Bill Cunningham is a New York City documentarian, photographer for the NYTimes style section, and a complete enigma. It seems like he leads a very solitary, mysterious, yet modest lifestyle, despite his popularity. I'm so surprised that he agreed to do this film because it seems like he puts his privacy first (refreshing, I know!), as well as his art. I guess in order to take good photographs he has to remain semi-anonymous, which has been increasingly difficult since he's been at the top of the game for so long.

I got the chance to see him in person at last summers Governor's Island Jazz Age Lawn Party and so I can't wait for this film to shed more light on the mystery that is Bill C.

He says, "I'm not interested in celebrities with their free clothes, I'm interested in fashion!" You tell em, Bill.

Jazz Age Lawn Party Part II

Sorry sorry sorry for my lack of posting for ages! I had some delightful visits from some lovely friends, and much interesting food was consumed. Check out our pizza endeavours one night: garlic crust, goats cheese, mozzarella and zucchini. It was seeeeriously delicious.

Anyway, now I'm baaack. Amanda's post about Jazz Age was just charming, so I decided to do a follow-up with some photos of things I liked at the shindig. I ended up going later in the day which meant we left the island on the same ferry as the whole band, which really was just swell and allowed for much dancing and merriment right up until the end.

There was many a hat to try on and everyone got in the spirit.

All in all it was a lovely day with lots of dancing, frolicking and buffoonery (isn't that a great word?). I highly recommend it for everyone next year, just as long as your remember to wear your dancing shoes!

Jazz Age Lawn Party Part I

Last Sunday was my first time attending the annual Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor's Island. It was so fun to watch everyone dance in their 20's garb and listen to the live band music. Highlight of the day: seeing Bill Cunningham, photographer Sunday NY times style section, in action. What a nice man. He was smiling the whole time and wearing his trademark blue coat (see above 1st photo). You can tell he loves what he does.

All in all I'd say it was the bee's knees.
