Alexa Chung for Madewell, Take 2

Whooooo's ready for the new Alexa Chung for Madewell line?
Personally, I think the line is a little overpriced for the just-raided-my-grandmother's-closet look she's going for (but isn't everything?) but hey, if you can afford it... why not? At the very least, it will be great for inspiration. Alexa mixes preppy staples with vintage-inspired pieces to create some really fun looks that can be worn from the office to the flea market to a bar. The new campaign, shot in Austin, Texas, was inspired by girls in bands roadtripping between their gigs. The kind of girls who "live their looks" (her words, not mine). The collection hits Madewell stores on September 22, so there's not much longer to wait now!

ALMONDY PEACHY TARTY

tart recipe adapted from Bon Appetit and Smitten Kitchen

Lina helped me make this Peach-Almond Tart yesterday (I substituted peaches for plums) and I'm proud to say that it's already gone! Believe me, it tastes as good as it looks and is mad easy to make if you have a food processor for the crust.  Peaches- so summery, gotta love those stone fruits.

Four things

1. NYX mail polish in matte orange 2. Urban outfitters polish in Bandeau 3. Mixed bean and radish seeds 4. Bracelet

Don't you love how the veggie seeds are in little glass vials?  Azzara and I went to Smorgasburg last Saturday and there was a little tiny stand handing out these seeds.  You should check out their website because it's for a great cause- they are raising money to create a community green space in an area that will become a dumb parking lot if they can't get enough support.  DONATE!

Also Azzara and I are also pretty into nail polish now so we got a couple of those this weekend too. YA friend bonding.  Who's tried that crackle stuff?  I want to see what that's all about...

Shoes of the Future

Everyone loves DIY... and SHOES. So when I came across United Nude's futuristic DIY shoes, I thought they were just the coolest. The Moon Life Project, started by Alicia Framis, is all about the possibility that humans will live in space in the future. Framis gave artists, architects and designers the chance to design concepts for everyday items we would use in our future environment, and they came up with some great stuff.

Made of carbon fibre, wire, laces and leather, United Nude's flatpack shoes are made of various pieces that can be slotted and laced together in less than 20 minutes for the pair. How cool! Check out the photos below and be sure to check out The Moon Life Project's website to see the rest of the groovy concepts!

What would you guys design for living in space? I'd want to find a way to bring my favourite steak and potatoes and eat them in a less dehydrated, irradiated type way. One day, right?

Eye What You Eat

As someone who loves pretty pictures, cooking and FOOD of all kinds, I'm totally into Eye What You Eat. No Reservations cameraman Erik Shirai is the man behind the "hardcore food porn" (Anthony Bourdain's words, not mine haha). The concept is food basically prepping and cooking itself, and Shirai has even given us several yummy options: potage, soba and capri. Check out the Potage video below (full screen if you can!), and click through to Eye What You Eat for the rest:

Whooooooooooo's hungry? (ME!)

Have a fantastic week, and for the NYCers - please try not to drown!

The Nest: Fall issue

The Nest goes digital.  The fall issue is free online so read it while you can!  This one's for all you interior design lovers.  Here's to reading magazines on a rainy New York day...

Also this is unrelated but I just started following a funny twitter stream called @CondeElevator (where Vogue is located) that documents the various and sometimes vapid comings and goings in the Conde Nast Publication building.

ACCES-STORIES with Caroline K.

This is the latest installment of ACCES-STORIES!  I had the opportunity to sit down with my good friend Caroline in Boston and hear what she had to say about her wonderful and infamous jewelry collection.  She has some great pieces and sure wears em with gusto.  Girl's got flair!

Adventurin'

Hey ya'll! Sorry I've been so MIA recently. I've been visiting friends all around town (meaning in the North East) and it sure has been grand. Two weeks ago, Amanda and I took the trek up to Boston on the fancyschmancy Megabus to visit us some friends. We went to check out the SoWa market where I got my favourite ever lamb on a stick back in May, from the Silk Road BBQ cart. Gimme that!

Chihuly at the MFA: part III

Hi all,

Azzara and I just got back from visiting Boston so I have some more to write about that soon but for now I wanted to do a quick post about Chihuly at the MFA.  You'll probably want to throttle us for all the posting we've been doing at Chihuly but honestly I couldn't not post about his work after I saw it in person on Saturday.  The glass pieces I love the most were based on basket forms and looked like they had components of being woven- so basically anything stripey I thought was extra wonderful.
Read on for more Chihuly...
